THE REGENCY OF DAIRI
The Regency of Dairi, whose capital city is Sidikalang, covers an area of 3,146.10 km2 or 4.3% of the province of North Sumatra. Dairi consists of 12 sub regencies, 7 administrative units, and 151 villages.
Geographically, the Regency of Dairi is located in the Northwestern highlands of North Sumatra, with boundaries as follows:
In the Northern part it borders on Regency of Karo and Southeast Aceh. In the Eastern part it borders on Regensy of Karo. In the Southern part it borders on Regency of North Tapanuli and Central Tapanuli. In the Western part it borders on Regency of South Aceh.
Most of the area of the Regency of Dairi consists of highlands rolling hills. Each part of Dairi has a different climate because of the differences in topography. The area below 400 m above sea level has a tropical climate. The area from 400-1000 m above sea level has a sub-tropical climate. The area above 1000 m above sea level has a colder climate all year round.
